Plastic Airline Cutter

Square cut. Every time. That is the whole job. Push-to-connect fittings seal against the outside wall of the tube; which means the cut face has to be clean and perpendicular or the o-ring never gets a full circle to grip. Cut an airline with side cutters and you get an oval; a burr and a chamfer on one side. It will hold air on the bench and leak in February. This is the purpose built cutter. One squeeze; a flat blade through the tube; no crimp; no flat spot; nothing for the collet to slip on. Seventeen dollars. Set against a weekend of soapy water and a slow corner you cannot explain. If you are plumbing an air system yourself; this is not the tool to substitute.

  • Square cuts - the cut face is what a push-to-connect o-ring seals against; an angled cut never seals all the way round.
  • No crimping - pliers and side cutters flatten the tube and a flattened tube leaks at the collet.
  • Purpose built - a flat blade through plastic line rather than a compromise from the toolbox.
  • Makes disconnects repeatable - a clean end goes back into a PTC fitting as many times as you need it to.
  • Seventeen dollars - cheaper than the first leak you would otherwise chase.
