The usual fix is a torch; a hammer and a shape nobody wants to look at. These are the honest version: pressed 16 gauge steel tubs with flanges; ready to be let into the bed and welded. 31 inch long by 11 inch high inside with 3 inch of depth; 33 by 12 by 4 outside once you count the flanges. 20 lbs for the pair. Universal enough to adapt to just about any classic stepside or flareside bed. Sold as a pair; because you are not doing one side of a bed. Bare steel. Finish work and clearance checks are yours; and they are worth doing carefully because a bed floor is a hard thing to un-cut.
