Aluminum Tonneau Cover | 1957-59 Chevy Fleetside Short Bed
The Fleetside was new in 1958. This is the lid it never got. Chevrolet had only just started building a smooth sided bed when these trucks left the line; and nobody was making a hard cover that respected the shape. Most modern covers sit on top of the rails and bury the one detail that made the Fleetside worth having. The FANTOM drops between the bedsides. The rail line stays visible from every angle; the cover reads as part of the bed rather than a box set on it. Underneath: an aluminum rail system with water management built in; rain gutters; weather stripping and an upgraded hinge. 170 lbs; electric actuators or gas shocks; bare aluminum so you paint it to the truck. A dimension sheet is required before this one is built. That is not paperwork for its own sake - a 1958 bed and a 1959 bed rarely measure the same and a flush cover has no tolerance to hide in.
