Crank Trigger Distributor, Red — Ford 289/302, Race Application

$478.95

Crank trigger distributor in red for Ford 289/302 race engines. No advance or pickup, just a rotor under a low cap, carrying spark while your crank trigger sets timing.

  • Lowest cap height - nothing under the cap but a rotor; clears busy intake setups.
  • Timing at the crank - the trigger handles it; the distributor just delivers spark.
  • Built for racing service - pressed ball bearing and QPQ-coated shaft for friction reduction.
  • Organized wire routing - Rynite Ford-style cap and wire retainer.
  • Bronze gear supplied - listed for race cam applications.

Nothing under the cap but a rotor. That is the point.

A race-application distributor for Ford 289 and 302 engines already running an MSD crank trigger — no advance assembly, no pickup, and a low-profile Rynite cap that clears busy intake setups. Bronze gear supplied. Listed red in the spec table.

This distributor has one job: carry spark from your ignition to the plugs while the crank trigger handles timing. There is no advance assembly and no pickup inside, and as MSD puts it, the only thing under the cap is a rotor. That is exactly why the cap assembly sits so low.

It is built for racing service. A ball bearing is pressed into the housing to guide the polished steel shaft, and the shaft carries a QPQ coating for friction reduction. MSD tops it with their Rynite-molded Ford-style cap and wire retainer, so plug wire routing stays organized instead of flopping around at rpm.

Every distributor is supplied with a bronze gear for race cam applications. The housing is standard-height Ford, so cast intake manifolds work as they should. Red is the confirmed difference from 83795, which MSD lists in black.

Standard-height Ford housing; polished QPQ-coated steel shaft; Rynite-molded cap and wire retainer; bronze gear Problem: On an engine timed by a crank trigger, a conventional distributor's advance and pickup are unnecessary, and its taller cap can run into busy intake setups. Solution: This red MSD crank trigger distributor for Ford 289/302 has nothing under the cap but a rotor, so the low Rynite cap clears busy intakes while a pressed ball bearing guides the QPQ-coated shaft for racing service.
