Same race build. Blacked out.

The black version of MSD's Ford 289 and 302 crank trigger distributor — no advance assembly, no pickup, low-profile Rynite cap, bronze gear supplied. Requires an MSD crank trigger and an MSD ignition control.

Running a crank trigger on your 289 or 302? This is the piece that finishes the system. The trigger sets timing at the crankshaft and this distributor carries the spark to the plugs — nothing more, which is exactly why it is built the way it is.

No advance assembly and no pickup inside means the cap sits low and clears tall intakes and linkage a conventional distributor runs into. A ball bearing pressed into the housing guides a polished, QPQ-coated steel shaft for long life and high rpm stability, and MSD's Rynite-molded Ford-style cap and wire retainer keeps the plug wires clear of the manifold.

A bronze gear is supplied with every distributor, listed by MSD for race cam applications, and the standard-height Ford housing means cast intake manifolds work as they should. Black is the confirmed difference from part number 8379, which MSD lists in red.

Check: confirm the bronze gear suits your camshaft. Emissions: Code 4, racing use only. Standard-height Ford housing; polished QPQ-coated steel shaft; Rynite-molded cap and wire retainer; bronze gear Problem: With a crank trigger setting timing at the crankshaft, a conventional distributor's advance and pickup are unnecessary, and its taller cap can run into intakes and linkage. Solution: This black MSD crank trigger distributor for Ford 289/302 has no advance and no pickup, so the low Rynite cap clears tall intakes while a pressed ball bearing keeps the shaft stable at high rpm.
