OBD-II / CAN Interface

OBD-II / CAN interface for Dakota Digital gauges in late-model engine swaps. Plugs into the diagnostic port to feed speed, RPM, temperature and check engine data.

  • No extra senders - reads the ECM instead of adding senders to a modern engine.
  • One plug - no splicing into engine harness circuits.
  • More data where the ECM allows - transmission temp, gear position, oil pressure and boost on engines that publish them.

Install Level: Easy

Works only with Dakota Digital RTX, HDX, VHX and VFD3 systems with a black plastic control module. Aluminum control modules are not compatible.
Control boxes with the 3.5mm BIM jack need adaptor harness 394193, sold separately.
Channels beyond speed, RPM, temperature and check engine depend on your ECM and are not guaranteed.

Are you doing a late model motor swap into your classic truck? Want to know when you have a Check Engine Light? Want to display engine data on your Dakota Gauge set? The BIM-01-2 OBD-II (J1850/CAN) Interface allows you to plug directly into the engine diagnostic port, extracting engine and transmission data from the vehicle's computer (ECM). The BIM-01-2 will collect and output the following information to Dakota Digital Instrument Systems

Available on most vehicles (see below):

  • Speedometer
  • Tachometer
  • Engine Temperature
  • Check Engine Indicator

Vehicle specific:

  • Intake Air Temperature
  • Transmission Temperature
  • Ambient Air Temperature
  • Gear Position
  • Oil Pressure
  • Boost Pressure

Due to the various factory and modified ECM's, additional data including (Intake Temp, Transmission Temp, Ambient Air Temp, Oil Pressure, and Gear Position) may be available, but will vary from application to application. Dakota Digital cannot guarantee the presence or accuracy of the Coolant Temp, Intake Temp, Transmission Temp, Ambient Air Temp, Oil Pressure, Boost or Gear Position displays since this is a function of the ECM and matching OEM functional sensors.

The BIM-01-2 is designed to decode the information provided by the ECM through OBD-II and supply this information to the RTX, HDX, VHX and VFD3 systems with a black plastic control module. For any BIM-compatible control boxes which contain the 3.5mm headphone jack BIM input, add part number 394193 adaptor harness.   Earlier instrument systems with an aluminum control module are not capable of BIM connectivity
